John Rudd

Managing Principal

Mr. Rudd specializes in financial advisory services, including financial restructuring, investment banking, mergers and acquisitions, and bankruptcy. His professional focus is on identifying, developing, and implementing creative financial solutions for clients in financial distress.

Mr. Rudd brings a multi-faceted perspective to his clients, having gained extensive experience as an adviser, lender, intermediary, CFO, workout lender, and bankruptcy specialist.

Mr. Rudd has experience in a number of businesses (including IT services, manufacturing, distribution, and service) and industries (including technology, automotive, metals, petroleum, housewares, consumer products, hazardous waste, environmental services, and food processing).

Mr. Rudd has been engaged in several major financial restructurings for clients, serving as financial adviser or Chief Restructuring Officer. With a focus on the implementation of financial solutions, sample engagements include:

  • Chief Restructuring Officer: Comprehensive workout and advisory services for a major manufacturer and distributor of home decorative products financial and operational analysis, bank and creditor negotiations, refinancing services.
  • Adviser to the Bank Group: Financial advisory services to a multi-bank group, including valuation of potential suitors and evaluation of reorganization proposals.
  • Bankruptcy Adviser: Bankruptcy advisory services for a manufacturer of food products, including restructuring advice, bank and creditor negotiations, merger and acquisition advisory services.
  • Court Appointed Receiver: Receivership and liquidation services for creditors of a major retail consumer distributor.

Mr. Rudd has served as an independent financial adviser; Chief Financial Officer of a $400 million petroleum refiner; and a corporate lender and workout officer for ING Group.

Mr. Rudd has an MBA from the University of Southern California and a BS in Economics from the University of Minnesota.

Brent Barton

Principal Consultant

With over fifteen years industry experience, Mr. Barton has trained and coached hundreds of IT professionals on best practices for project management and team development. He has consulted in diverse industries including pharmaceutical, software, semiconductor and e-commerce.

As a management consultant he is deeply experienced in evaluating failing projects and programs and instituting effective remediations. He also coaches management teams and leads workshops on how to work through specific organizational and process problems that block them from effectively achieving their objectives regarding software production and release. In addition he has extensive experience in managing and implementing effective offshore development operations.

Some example engagements include:

  • Program intervention and turnaround: Mr. Barton helped a Fortune 500 pharmaceutical company implement the radical changes that were necessary to get their high-risk, multi-million dollar program back on schedule and successfully delivered. Working through the organizational challenges required constant attention and executive management, and team level coaching.
  • Dispute settlement: Mr. Barton mediated a dispute between a vendor and a customer that involved threatened legal action regarding a project that was 300% over budget and 400% over schedule. Through fact finding, conflict resolution and the introduction of a shared risk model, he resolved the dispute within one month. In addition the vendor entered into two new contracts with the customer that were successfully completed on time and on budget.
  • Business to Consumer e-commerce: Mr. Barton helped a large, international e-commerce project that was failing because quality assurance testing could not be completed due to the inability of the development team to provide a testable version of the system. Within a few days he was able to coordinate a resolution by helping the QA and the development teams overcome technical confusion and more effectively cooperate. Over the course of several weeks productivity continued to increase with the end result that the system ended up going into production on schedule.

Dave Wylie

Managing Director

Over a career of 25 years, Mr. Wylie has worked as a software developer, tester, analyst, project manager and consultant. The last 19 years have been devoted to consulting to mid-sized and Fortune 500 clients in a wide variety of industries with a special focus on telecommunications, wireless communications and delivering business systems into highly complex operational environments. His engagements have included systems strategy, software selection, conversions, retiring applications, business analysis, development, e-commerce, ERPs and business intelligence.

Before joining AretéAS he worked as a senior consultant at Deloitte and as a principal at several boutique firms specializing in technology project management.

Mr. Wylie has a BS from the University of Missouri and an MBA from Northern Arizona University.

Eric Burke

Managing Director

Mr. Burke brings a rich background in information technology and product development to AretéAS. His experience spans more than fifteen years working with companies of all sizes, from software startups to members of the Fortune 500. Mr. Burke's areas of expertise include: product marketing, IT governance, portfolio management, and IT strategic planning across a broad range of industries including: Aerospace and Defense, Enterprise Software and Healthcare.

Mr. Burke's management and consulting experience includes:

  • Product Marketing and Marketing Operations: Mr. Burke works with product and service companies to develop winning market strategies, differentiated messaging and sales tools. He creates highly effective demand generation programs, implements CRM (salesforce.com) and develops professional corporate websites with embedded analytics, social media tools and integrated lead capture systems.
  • Project and Portfolio Management (PPM): An innovator in the PPM software market, Mr. Burke led the development of the first maturity-based approach to implementing PPM. Mr. Burke has consulted on PPM implementations with dozens of early adopters like Cargill, Chevron, Dell, Office Depot, Lowes, Schlumberger, and Starbucks.

Prior to joining AretéAS, Mr. Burke was a managing consultant with Deloitte where he managed a wide range of IT projects including: systems selection, application development, ERP systems integration, and data warehousing. Eric began his professional career at Northrop Grumman where he developed embedded software for the B2 avionics system and automated pre-flight certification tests for the Air Force.

Mr. Burke holds an Engineering degree from Harvey Mudd College and an MBA from the University of Washington, Foster School of Business.

Tisha Cornwall

Senior Director

Ms. Cornwall has twelve years of accounting and business management experience in the private sector. Her areas of expertise include business process definition, cash management, financial analysis, report development and training. As a controller and business consultant her industry experience includes Seed and Grain, Construction Equipment Sales and Rentals, Telemarketing Call Centers, Courtroom Technologies, Healthcare Associations, Car Rentals, Power and Energy Solutions, Laser Manufacturers, Technology Staffing and Professional Services.

She also has five years experience implementing financial and business systems including software selection and configuration, systems integration, data conversion, and financial reporting.

Prior to joining AretéAS, Ms. Cornwall was a systems consultant and project manager for TIS Consulting and before that national sales manager for Titania Golf, a ladies apparel distributor. In addition to serving as a controller in the heavy equipment leasing and professional services industries, she has held various roles in the financial services and banking industries. Ms. Cornwall received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Lance Young

Solution Architect

Mr. Young has seventeen years of software engineering experience that includes fulfilling the roles of software engineer, technical project manager, development director, and enterprise and solution architect.

As a consultant at both mid-sized and Fortune 500 companies, he has assessed business systems, technical architectures, software products and software development operations and makes recommendations concerning business impact, business value, risk modeling, and business continuity, as well as purely technical aspects such as code quality and test coverage.

Mr. Young has diverse industry experience including financial services, technology start-ups, packaged-software installations, e-commerce, medical research, and cellular applications.

Some sample engagements include:

  • Mergers and acquisitions: For a large financial services company, prior to mergers and acquisitions performed technical evaluations and business risk assessments and afterwards led the teams that implemented the recommendations.
  • Cellular phone industry: Helped a large cellular phone company restructure their sustaining engineering program for a mission-critical real estate and capital equipment asset management system, including switching prime vendors and dramatically reducing service disruptions.
  • Project in crisis: Helped a state-wide government agency resolve release and configuration management problems that were blocking them from releasing software into production.

Lance is a regular presenter at regional users groups and international conferences on a variety of software development and project management topics.

Mr. Young received his BSEE from Clemson University.

Monica Yap

International Managing Director

Ms. Yap has over seventeen years focused on building and leading successful development teams for outsourced projects. She and her teams have delivered successful projects in vertical industries such as mobile data, finance, and property tax management. Her expertise includes 'rescuing' failing projects, managing multiple vendors to deliver large, complex systems, coordinating the efforts of teams distributed across the world, production release operations, and software/system technical evaluation.

Monica is a regular organizer and presenter at international conferences (including Agile2005, Agile2006, Agile2007, and Agile2008) and thought leader on applying best practices for managing globally distributed development teams.

Ms. Yap holds Bachelor of Science and Computer Science degrees.
